    • “Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions” was originally an 1884 novella by the theologian and mathematician Edwin A. Abbott. It is popular among mathematics and computer science students, and considered useful reading for people studying topics such as the concept of other dimensions. As a piece of literature, Flatland is respected for its satire on the social hierarchy of Victorian society. As of this writing there have been three films made based on this novel, of which “Flatland: The Film” is the latest.
    • Two of the characters from the film, A Square and Colonel Triangle, were programmed as artificial intelligence “chatbots” that can be chatted with online at www.FlatlandTheFilm.com/chat.html
    • “Flatland” was the first computer-animated feature film to be created by one person, without the legion of animators and technical crew required by larger-budgeted animation studios.

    • During his fight with Mosaic, Manikin sprouts tail and becomes more reptilian. With the long coat, Manikin looks almost exactly the way the Spider-Man villain The Lizard looked in his first appearance (“The Amazing Spider-Man” Vol. 1, #6, November 1963).

    • As Maggie considers the source of her powers, she jokingly suggests being bitten by a radioactive chameleon. This is a reference to Stan Lee's most famous creation, Spider-Man (bitten by a radioactive spider).
